In order for the Stamford Police Department to take action regarding a bad check several conditions must be met. Some of these are:

  • The check must exceed $100.00
  • The check must have been presented and/or accepted in Stamford
  • The check was issued by a Stamford resident and mailed out of state
  • The check must be stamped insufficient Funds” and “Do Not Redeposit” or holes must be punched in the check where the account number is printed. A stamp of “Account Closed” will also fulfill these requirements
  • The complaint must be made to the Stamford Police within 90 days of receiving the check
