The City of Stamford is committed to a clean environment and Composting is a great way to reduce climate change. The City is a leader in recycling, with weekly single stream recycling.  The City also picks up leaves once in the fall and Christmas trees once in the winter – which are composted. In addition, Stamford now has a food/organic compost program, open to all residents.

Residents can bring all food waste (except for shellfish shells) to the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center during normal operating hours.  We accept more categories of food waste than can be used in traditional backyard composting. We encourage residents to check out the Food Scrap Recycling web page and learn all about this new and exciting program.

Stamford Recycling would like to provide some helpful links to encourage all residents and businesses to compost when possible because it is great for the environment and the City:

  • Composting reduces waste that would otherwise be carted to landfills or incinerated
  • Composting creates nutrient-rich soil that is great for gardening.

Residents who are not able to compost all of their own grass clippings and yard waste can bring it to the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center.

Businesses can bring their grass clippings, leaves, and yard waste to The Scale House
