Under the leadership of Matthew Quiñones, Director of Operations, the City of Stamford has launched its first Urban Forestry Working Group.

This Group’s mission is to:

a. help advocate for the City’s tree planting efforts;

b. support the development of a tree inventory program; and

c. assist in the development of policies related to the City's Tree Planting Program.

This group will develop policy recommendations to incentivize the growth of Stamford's urban forest, provide protection of Stamford's existing tree canopy, and propose disincentives for removal of mature trees. The City is currently conducting a city-wide tree inventory and planting program supported by a $1million federal grant from the Department of Agriculture's Urban and Community Forestry Program.  Click here to access documentation on the Group’s purpose and members, and here for meeting minutes.
