Easy Ways to be Sustainable

  • Shop local.  The City of Stamford recently launched its first Shop Local Guide! For more information, and local businesses, click here
  • Care for your neighbors and Be Kind.  On November 3rd, Mayor Simmons launched the Stamford Kindness Project which will continue through December 25, 2023. Learn more here.
  • DIY, upcycle and donate. Repurpose, regift and repair.  Don’t put usable items in the trash.
  • Thrift shop for vintage gifts.
  • For new purchases, buy goods made from recycled materials.
  • Use recyclable wrapping paper or gift in a reusable item such as a basket, scarf, or garden pot.
  • Utilize reusable storage containers, bags, and cutlery.
  • Unplug all household appliances and electronics when traveling.
  • When upgrading electronic devices, keep older versions out of the trash. Donate or recycle.
  • Switch to LED lights inside and outside your home or business. Use solar powered lights wherever possible.

At Home

At Work
